Listen up.
Is it true that I wanted an excuse to base a book around Chris Stapleton songs? Yes.
Does that stop them from being so perfect for Wes & Liv? Not a chance.
I’ve made it no secret that my stories start from music. Originally I’d had the idea to have Risks revolved around a road trip. Perhaps Liv agrees to direct a small indie film and Wes is the lead actor? Ooh, so much #onebed potential! (Someone please write this AU fanfic and send it to me!)
In the end, I knew two things: This was a story about two people who are living with heartache, and who are each other’s safe place to land. I feel the soundtrack pretty accurately reflects that, as well as keeping enough of a light tone to match Wes & Liv’s playful moments!
A little extra note; while writing the original draft, I attended an acoustic session of a concert pianist who played Hans Zimmer’s Time (from the Inception soundtrack), and was completely captured by the feeling of yearning, hope and loss it inspired. It felt perfectly dramatic for Wes.
And for something a little more fun: I imagine this is how i learn to say no when Liv is having her final conversation with Jen!
